Secretary Geithner met in Mumbai, India today with leaders of India’s major multinational corporations, in a meeting organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). They discussed ways in which the United States and India can deepen our bilateral economic engagement, in order to expand opportunities for American and Indian businesses and workers.
The conversation focused on India’s ongoing reform process, and ways our two economies can lower barriers to trade and investment in order to facilitate stronger growth and create jobs. Secretary Geithner also discussed the important and growing contribution Indian foreign direct investment is making to job creation in the United States.
Later, Secretary Geithner met with a group of India’s dynamic young entrepreneurs from a variety of industries. In addition to exploring ways to boost bilateral trade and investment, they also discussed new and innovative private sector solutions to India’s development challenges-- and how United States businesses can better participate in a market of enormous potential.
