PRESIDENTIAL MANAGEMENT INTERN PROGRAM (PMI) |
|
The Presidential Management Intern (PMI) Program was established by Executive Order in 1977. It is designed to attract to the Federal service outstanding graduate students from a wide variety of academic disciplines who have an interest in, and commitment to, a career in the analysis and management of public policies and programs. Assignments as a PMI may involve domestic or international issues, technological changes, criminal justice, financial management, and many other fields in support of public service programs. Eligibility and the Nomination Process: Students need to be nominated for the PMI Program by the appropriate dean, director or chairperson of the graduate academic program. Students participate in a competitive nomination process devised by their educational institution. This competitive nomination process insures fair and open competition among all interested and eligible graduate-level students. Selection and Appointment: PMIs receive an initial two-year appointment. After successfully completing the two-year program, PMIs may be eligible for conversion to a permanent government position and further promotional opportunities. Career Development Opportunities: Further Information: Additional information can be obtained through the OPM website at www.pmi.opm.gov
