(December 11, 2013) Following today’s hearing before the Senate Finance Committee, the IRS Oversight Board called for the speedy confirmation of John Koskinen to become the IRS Commissioner.
“After a challenging year, stability and long-term direction for our nation’s tax administration system is needed. John Koskinen is a seasoned leader who has demonstrated an ability to refocus and rebuild major organizations. I have had the privilege to meet with Mr. Koskinen and discuss the many issues the IRS must face in the coming years, and am confident he is the right person in the right place at the right time for America’s taxpayers.” said IRS Oversight Board Chairman Paul Cherecwich.
Mr. Cherecwich went on the praise to Acting IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel, who has led the IRS since last May. “Mr. Werfel has done an outstanding job under enormous pressure as acting IRS Commissioner. He has made real progress in moving the IRS forward in the right direction,” he commented.
If confirmed, Mr. Koskinen will become a member of the IRS Oversight Board.
