African Finance Ministers visiting Treasury.
The Office of African Nations develops and guides economic policy towards 49 sub-Saharan African economies and seeks to foster financial and economic development and stability through relevant policies that stimulate growth and reduce poverty.

Through the office’s current policy efforts, Treasury is working to: bolster regional infrastructure, including supporting President Obama’s Power Africa initiative; strengthen local capital markets and financial sector as well as broaden financial access; improve the investment climate and strengthen trade capacity; and strengthen health security in Africa.  The Africa Office works with Treasury’s representatives in the international financial institutions to shape the terms of critical loans and development programs, and with Treasury’s advisors to African ministries and central banks that provide technical assistance directly to local policymakers.

Treasury’s activity on Africa is led by Deputy Assistant Secretary Eric Meyer.
