Treasury to Host Screening of Hamilton's America

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, October 5, 2016, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and PBS, in support of the White House’s South by South Lawn Festival, will host a screening of the documentary film Hamilton’s America at the Newseum. The film chronicles two years of the creative development of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning musical Hamilton and the first year of its smash Broadway run. Hamilton’s America combines interviews with leaders, historians and artists with new footage of the production in New York, and cast-led expeditions to DC, Mount Vernon, Valley Forge and around New York. Hamilton’s America is a RadicalMedia documentary for PBS’ Great Performances.

Following the screening, Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew, Hamilton actor Christopher Jackson, and Professor Joanne Freeman will participate in a panel discussion moderated by Maya Rhodan of TIME Magazine to discuss the historical legacy of Alexander Hamilton, the musical’s success, Treasury’s next generation of paper currency, and making history and art accessible to all.

This documentary screening is in support of the White House’s South by South Lawn Festival which will bring together creators, innovators, and organizers who work day in and day out to improve the lives of their fellow Americans and people around the world.
